A Medical College was established in the year 2009 in the name and style of Sri Muthukumaran Medical College Hospital and Research Institute, and has been approved by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi for admission of 150 students in the 1st year MBBS from the Academic year 2010-2011.

SMMCH&RI is spread over 27.11 acres of land. The Medical College, Multispeciality Hospital, Central Library, Students Hostels, Faculty Quarters, Canteen, Cafeteria and Playgrounds are all situated within the campus at Chikkarayapuram, near Mangadu.

The Hospital was established with state of the art facilities and it started functioning, catering to the medical needs of the area from September 2007.
